VET PATHWAYS
Vocational Education and Training
At Mount Barker High School, we are proud to offer a range of flexible learning options that support students in completing Vocational Education and Training (VET) competencies and qualifications. These programs are designed to help students gain practical skills and industry experience while working towards their SACE (South Australian Certificate of Education). On this page, students will find information on undertaking work learning, applying for a VET course, and school-based apprenticeships or traineeships.

VET PATHWAYS
Adelaide Hills Student Pathways partnership
As a member of the Adelaide Hills Student Pathways (AHSPS) network, our students have access to an even broader selection of VET and Industry Pathways Programs (IPP). Through this partnership, students can attend courses at the Adelaide Hills Trade Training Centre, which offers state-of-the-art facilities and expert instruction across a wide range of industries.
This collaboration ensures that students can pursue their interests and career goals with the support of both our school and the wider Adelaide Hills education community.
For more detailed information, we encourage you to visit the official Adelaide Hills Student Pathways website.

Other VET school clusters
While the majority of vocational education and training (VET) opportunities are offered through the Adelaide Hills Student Pathways (AHSPs) alliance, students may also access courses delivered by external training providers outside of the alliance. These courses may be located in other regions and can provide specialised training in areas not currently available within the AHSP’s framework. Additional considerations such as travel, costs, and timetable flexibility should also be discussed with the school’s VET and Careers Pathway Coordinator.

Workplace learning
Workplace learning provides students with opportunities to experience life beyond the classroom and explore potential career pathways. It connects school learning to real-world environments, enabling students to apply their knowledge and skills in practice. Through these experiences, students gain insight into how workplaces operate, what different roles involve, and the expectations employers have. This hands-on approach helps students build confidence, develop essential skills, and make informed decisions about their future. The steps needed to undertake workplace learning can be found by following the link below.

How to enrol in a VET course
ocational Education and Training (VET) courses provide students with practical skills and nationally recognised qualifications while still at school. These programs are designed to prepare students for employment or further study in a specific industry, such as hospitality, construction, health, or technology. VET combines classroom learning with hands-on training, helping students develop real-world skills that employers value.
To enrol in a VET course, please follow these steps listed on the ENROL IN A VET COURSE page.

VET PATHWAYS
School-based apprenticeships or traineeships
A school-based apprenticeship or traineeship provides students in years 10 to 13 with the opportunity to combined their South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) with Vocational Education and Training (VET) and paid employment. These programs are designed to support students in developing practical skills and gain industry experience while completing their secondary education.
In most cases, these opportunities are aligned with a Flexible Industry Pathway (FIP), an industry-endorsed route that supports students in transitioning from school to employment.
